The Minister of Labor, Dr. Mohamed Haidar, received the European Union Ambassador to Lebanon, Sandra de Waal, in a meeting that discussed the reality of the Lebanese labor market and the challenges it faces in light of the current economic and social conditions, in addition to ways to enhance cooperation between the Ministry of Labor and the European Union in projects aimed at supporting workers and productive institutions. The research discussed the programs implemented by the European Union in Lebanon related to enhancing job opportunities and raising the level of vocational and technical training. As part of his meetings, Minister Haider received the Director of the International Organization for Migration’s office in Lebanon, Matteo Luciano, where they discussed the existing cooperation between the Ministry and the organization in files related to migration management. Minister Haider also received the Secretary General of the Industrialists Association, Haj Hassan Yassin. The Minister of Labor also received the heads of the unions and unions of internal and external shipping, transit and refrigerated shipping, and the ports of Beirut and Tripoli, headed by Hajj Bassam Tlais, where the meeting was devoted to discussing the conditions of the land transport and shipping sector, especially the file of Lebanese and non-Lebanese truck drivers. Tlais explained, after the meeting, that it was agreed to hold a subsequent meeting that includes the federations and unions concerned to come up with a unified formula that will be submitted to the Minister of Labor, in a way that achieves a balance between protecting the national economy and preserving the rights of workers in this sector, while adhering to Lebanese laws and taking into account the conditions and regulations in force in the Arab countries receiving Lebanese products, which contributes to facilitating the export movement and ensuring the continuity of the export of goods.
