The President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, received a phone call this afternoon from US Vice President J.D. Vance and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, during which the latest developments related to the situation in Lebanon and the post-Switzerland meetings were discussed.
Messrs. Vance and Rubio affirmed the support of the United States of America for the positions of the President of the Republic and the Lebanese government in their approach to extending the legitimate authority of the state and strengthening its national sovereignty over its entire territory through its army and security forces alone and enabling it to adhere to its obligations in this field.
Messrs. Vance and Rubio stressed that the United States of America will follow up on implementing what was agreed upon in the Swiss meetings, including the formation of a cell from the United States, Lebanon, and the Islamic Republic of Iran to establish a ceasefire in Lebanon and monitor the implementation of related measures.
They pointed out that the arrangements related to the work of the cell and the method of its formation are currently being studied.
President Aoun thanked the US Vice President and the Minister of Foreign Affairs for the interest shown by the United States of America towards Lebanon with the aim of ending the war there and strengthening the authority of the Lebanese state and the independence of its decisions as it is solely responsible for preserving national sovereignty and the dignity and safety of the Lebanese.
