Media personality Ricardo Karam announced through a post on his social media accounts the death of Dalal Karam, ex-wife of the late artist Ziad Rahbani, after a struggle with lung cancer.
Karam wrote, saying: “Ziyad Rahbani married once in his life, in 1979, to Dalal Karam, who was a member of the Lebanese popular troupe. He met her during performances of the play “Mays Al-Reem,” and from there began a story of great love, short in time, but it left its mark.
Dalal participated with him in some of his works, and gave birth to one son, Assi. Later, there was a lot of talk and confusion in the media about matters that remain very private, and we do not care to delve into them today.
He continued: “I learned that Dalal had moved to the world of truth at six o’clock this morning, after a struggle with lung cancer that she fought for 5 years, leaving behind her son Assi. "
Karam added: “Everyone who knew Assi, worked with him or was close to him, like my friends Giselle Khoury and Ziad Njeim, agrees on one thing: Assi is a value in and of himself. Exceptional, with rare gentleness, a transparent spirit, and a sincere presence. I met him recently, and I say it with love and clarity: The most beautiful thing a mother can leave behind is a human being who resembles goodness.
Karam concluded by saying: “With this departure, Ziad’s words, simple and profound at the same time, come back to mind:
“Dalal’s breeders raised you and tortured you, Dalal
We went to talk to your father, and I wish you had seen what your father said
And in every case, it means in all circumstances
Thank you, I am grateful for the reception
It is as if it sums up an entire story that was told spontaneously one day and remains.
Ziad is gone. Dalal is gone. But what was written between them, in a moment of honesty, will remain through songs that will be passed down through generations.”
