Salam: There is no bargaining over any inch of the homeland
Fady Mahouly
Prime Minister Nawaf Salam said, during the graduation ceremony of students at Notre Dame University Louaize (NDU), that “restoring the state will take place through an integrated path between reform and extending state authority.”
He pointed out that "there is no complete sovereignty for a state whose institutions are eroding from within, and building the future begins with restoring the state's confidence."
Salam added: “We want a state in which the citizen feels that his future is not dependent on his political or sectarian affiliation, and which is the decision-maker in war and peace, and which decides and is not decided upon or negotiated by anything other than its constitutional authority, and which has exclusive weapons over its entire territory.”
He considered that “reform requires completing everything that was not implemented in the Taif Agreement and being open to developing it,” and said: “Lebanon, despite everything it has gone through, still has enough light to emerge from the darkness into a better future.”
He said: "I renew my government's commitment not to back down from the reform process that it began, not to compromise on any inch of the nation's land, and not to be complacent in restricting weapons to the hands of legitimate forces alone."
