The Basic Education Association threatens: We will not participate in monitoring if the demands are not met
Fady Mahouly
The Association of Public Basic Education Teachers was surprised in a statement, “not being invited to the consultative meeting dedicated to discussing the official examinations file, despite it being the representative body for thousands of male and female teachers in public education and we are supposed to be the primary partner in any discussion related to this national educational entitlement.”
While she affirmed her “adherence to responsible dialogue and consultation,” she believed that “her absence from this meeting detracts from her right to represent thousands of observers and participants in committees and logistical work, who are responsible for accomplishing the largest part of this right.”
She considered, "This absence comes after procrastination by the government and the Parliament in approving the opening of funds to disburse the six salaries that were approved in mid-February, with teachers benefiting from them as of the first of March. However, this procrastination, and after Finance Minister Yassin Jaber’s statement that there are millions of dollars, and after collecting the same from gasoline tax revenues, is sufficient reason to take the appropriate position."
The association announced, “If the exams take place and the demands for the six salaries and increased fees for monitoring and correction are not met, then the matter does not concern us and we will not participate in the monitoring.”
