Fady Mahouly
The Minister of Education and Higher Education, Rima Karami, held an extensive educational consultative meeting via video communication technology, which included educational officials, representatives of public and private schools, teachers’ associations, and secondary school principals from various Lebanese regions, especially the affected areas in the south, Nabatieh, the southern suburbs, and Baalbek-Hermel.
Karami listened to the participants’ opinions, which ranged from demanding the cancellation of official exams, keeping them according to the flexible mechanism adopted by the Ministry, postponing them, or adopting optional exams for students.
She confirmed that she will study various proposals in preparation for submitting proposals to the Council of Ministers, based on the standards of educational justice and equity and taking into account the conditions of all students.
She stressed that the security situation and the safety of students were always a red line, as was educational justice, pointing out the necessity of working as an educational community to find solutions to the negative consequences of exceptional decisions of all kinds that these circumstances necessitated, in order to preserve the students’ academic future and the level of their learning experience, based on the fact that the situation in Lebanon is in a state of permanent instability, given its geographical location.
