Mexico achieved its first victory, 2-0, over South Africa in the opening of the FIFA World Cup yesterday, Thursday, at Azteca Stadium in Mexico City, in a match that witnessed three expulsions. Mexico scored one goal in each half, after Julian Quinones opened the scoring for the home side in the ninth minute, before veteran Raul Jimenez settled the score in the 67th minute. Two South African players received two red cards, after Siphelo Sithu was sent off four minutes after the break, before Themba Zwane was sent off in the 84th minute after a VAR review. While Mexico completed the match with ten players after defender Cesar Montes was sent off in stoppage time with a direct red card.
