US Vice President J.D. Vance announced on Friday that it is difficult to determine an exact date for President Donald Trump to sign the memorandum of understanding with Iran. He added that the United States has made "a lot of progress in the negotiations with Iran, and there is feedback on some provisions of the draft agreement," noting that "it is very clear that the Iranians want an agreement and want to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, and we want them to do that." He explained, "There are still disagreements with Iran regarding enrichment and the stock of highly enriched uranium," noting that the field situation has improved compared to what it was 5 or 6 weeks ago. He continued, Trump may support the agreement with Iran, and it is clear that this is still being determined. Vance added that settling some of the outstanding technical details with Tehran is very complex and requires more time to mature. He pointed out that the current moves are mainly focused on preparing the ground for successful negotiations on the nuclear file. Vance said, “We are approaching a point that allows us to sit down and resolve the outstanding issues with Iran, but the matter requires additional progress,” noting that “the final agreement with Tehran will lead directly to reopening the Strait of Hormuz to navigation.”
