The Bank of Lebanon issued a circular regarding the possibility of granting a mother the ability to open an account for her minor children, which included the following:
Pending the issuance of the law approved by the Parliamentary Women and Children Committee on November 30, 2020, adding an article to the Trade Law, giving the mother the right to open an account for her minor children, and she alone has the right to operate it until the minor reaches the age of eighteen. In the event of the mother’s death or loss of legal capacity, the father, as a compulsory guardian, has no right to prohibit the account except with the permission of the competent court. All banks are requested to activate the provisions of the circular issued by the Association of Banks referred to above, which stipulates allowing The mother may create a trust with banks and designate her minor son as a beneficiary of this trust.
