Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants Youssef Raji, in coordination with the Ministry of Culture, followed up on the issue of the identification plaque attached to the memorial in New York dedicated to commemorating the first Lebanese immigrants, after it contained an ambiguous description of the identity of the most prominent Lebanese writers in the diaspora, led by Gibran Khalil Gibran, Mikhail Naima, Amin Al-Rihani, and Elia Abu Madi. Immediately, Raji gave his instructions to the Lebanese Ambassador to Washington, Nada Hamada Moawad, and the Lebanese Consul General in New York, Talal Daher, to make the necessary contacts with the relevant authorities, with the aim of correcting the text in a way that is consistent with the known historical, cultural and geographical facts, and confirms the original and authentic Lebanese affiliation of these writers who formed an essential pillar of Lebanon’s cultural heritage in the world. Raji stressed the importance of maintaining accuracy in documenting the contributions of the pioneers of the Lebanese diaspora, because of the literary and cultural value they represent in the national memory and in the specificity of the Lebanese identity.
