The Information Affairs Office of the General Directorate of Public Security issued the following statement: “There are news and reports circulating on some social media platforms alleging that non-Lebanese nationals obtained Lebanese passports by illegal or forged means, and the accompanying accusations against the directorate and its former officials. The General Directorate of Public Security is interested in clarifying the following: First: The General Directorate of Public Security, as the only official body responsible for issuing Lebanese travel documents, confirms that the procedures for issuing passports are subject to strict international security and technical standards, and that it is very difficult to hack its system or falsify its data. Second: The circulation of news that lacks legal documents and proven facts, and reliance on undocumented news, aims to undermine the credibility of the Lebanese state and the reputation of its official documents in international forums, which reflects negatively on the Lebanese citizen in the first place. Third: The Directorate asks citizens, activists, and the media to exercise accuracy and national responsibility, not to be drawn into rumors, and to obtain information exclusively from its official sources.
